Introducing Bristol based independent record label Slippery Sounds ~ channeling the ethos ‘Flavours for the Dance’. The philosophy behind the slogan comes from the dance floor - enjoying the tunes, or behind the decks.
Slippery Sounds was born after realising that SSSLIP was surrounded by incredibly talented producers and DJs, so wanted to create a platform to share their creations and mixes
With a focus on the emotions that are created on the dance floor, the label aims to take a Breaks focused approach to it’s output, whilst maintaining emotive melodies and deep baselines.
It was after seeing Randall in Lakota that he decided he wanted to dedicate his time to mixing, writing songs and running a record label.
Having run the label in London for a year, the move to Bristol felt natural for the sound Slippery Sounds represents, and has proved that so far with other Bristol based labels and DJs showing support...
This years earlier release ‘Flavours for the Dance VOL.1’ saw 8 artists contribute to the labels first compilation which truly encompassed the Slippery ‘Sound’, journeying through garage, breaks, footwork, dub and remixes.
After the wonderful reception of zeez’s contribution to the compilation; a remix of childhood classic T2 - Heartbroken, the collaboration between zeez and Slippery Sounds began materialising, and within just the course of lockdown ‘Mad Summer’ was born. Taking inspiration from the 1999 Japanese film Kukijiro, about alienation and inclusion in society, zeez’s Mad Summer, with its strange soundscape, highlights a sense of alienation that everyone has felt over the summer of 2020. Choppy breaks, deep subs and beautifully sampled orchestral notes throughout make zeez’s ‘Mad Summer’ a feat of escapism whilst retaining a certain dancefloor readiness.
With ‘Mad Summer’ zeez maintains his signature style of emotive choppiness that tugs at the heartstrings with each and every song, sharing feelings and sensations through palatable dance music while retaining his signature deep and unusual soundscape.
It’s been an incredible first year and a bit for Slippery Sounds, from getting three releases out to having a show on Balamii and running a Free Download Series and Guest Mix Series. You can expect more dance floor ready heaters from the Slippery Sounds family later this year and beyond !
If lockdown has you missing rave culture, lock into the mixes of Slippery Sounds & count down the days until you can join them for future live events...
