In order to honour this late legendary musical figure, Psychic Garden are proud to present a short experimental film for the song "Grasshoppers" - An experimental piano composition from Sakamoto's debut album Thousand Knives (1978). The video was directed and edited by Denholm Hewlett.



Ryuichi Sakamoto (1952-2023) is one of the most beloved and prolific figures in modern Japanese music, a highly revered and classically trained musician, composer, record producer, singer-songwriter, activist and actor. Ryuichi Sakamoto is most well-known as one of the founding members behind the electronic techno-pop music phenomenon Yellow Magic Orchestra, a truly revolutionary group and perhaps the most influential and iconic Japanese band of all time.

Ryuichi also maintained a highly successful career outside of YMO working as a solo artist. He's the acclaimed composer of several award winning film soundtracks including The Last Emperor (1987), Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence (1983) ~ [Which he also starred in] and The Revenant (2015).
